Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter #1)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - J.K. Rowling My first experience with Harry Potter come in high school. I fell in love. In fact, 11 years later I'm still in love. In each reading of Harry Potter I find new facts and hints that never revealed themselves to me before.

I give it four stars only because compared with the others in the series, it falls short. In its own right, meaning, without the other books in the series, it deserves five stars. However, compared with the storytelling and emotion in the each of the other texts, Sorcerer's Stone just can not compete. Perhaps this is because we are just meeting Harry and the wonderfully detailed cast of characters who accompany him. We learn about the wizarding world with Harry and navigate through his trials with him. While this is not a problem, it does make for a less emotionally engaging read. Meaning, that we aren't emotionally involved with Harry until later books because we are still in the discovery process ourselves.

Nonetheless, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first step in a journey that will be with you for a lifetime.
